L. S. Lowry (1887-1976)

'Waiting for the shop to open'

L.S. Lowry was an English artist from a working class background. He lived in Manchester in the industrial north of England and painted the things he saw around him. Many of his best works were painted during the depression of the 1920's. Always fascinated by group behaviour, in this painting he looks at a favourite English pastime queuing!
